Specialized Jobs
In Ancient Greece, work would be split between men and women. They would have different rights, responsibilities, and jobs. Since women had fewer rights, they couldn't have any political say or inheritance. However, Spartan women were treated differently from the rest of Greece, as they had more rights and could own land. The men would be allowed to vote and participate in politics. They had many more choices for jobs than women did.
Men had much more rights than women did, and they had the freedom to do many more jobs too. They were expected to work outside instead of in the house. Many of them were allowed to participate in politics and could also have a say in the government. They could be farmers, merchants, artisans, politicians, actors, engineers, fishermen, and more. While they could do all of these, women wouldn't be allowed to.
In Ancient Greece, most women would usually only be allowed to stay at home. They spent their days taking care of children, sewing and weaving clothing, cleaning, and cooking meals. In most places, they weren't allowed to have an education. But in Sparta, women would be allowed to go to school and practice sports, which shocked many other city-states. Sometimes, they would be allowed to do other jobs too. Like being musicians, druggists, authors, and bakers. Men considered anything that was even remotely domestic as a task for women.
